HANTVERK & FOUND

What a great honour and delight it was to be invited to help our dear friend Kate de Syllas to extend her Michelin-guide seafood cafe, Hantverk & Found, into the neighbouring building on Margate’s King Street. One of the very best restaurants in town, we secured Listed Building consent and a change of use for Kate to convert the neighbouring retro furniture shop into an enlarged restaurant space, with annexed prep kitchen and ancillary areas. This freed up the original bijou restaurant space where Kate has created Big Naturals: a relaxed tapas-style wine bar.

The concept for the extended restaurant space was to continue the aesthetic of the original restaurant, referencing the fishing huts of Whitstable by using black-stained bespoke timber joinery and vibrant green accents, while introducing nuanced details to augment the ergonomics and elegance of the space. Care was taken to consider the street presence and outlook, ambience, operational pragmatics and connectivity between the two restaurant spaces, both publicly and privately.
